Abstract

The presence of bacteria in urine is called bacteriuria, and large numbers of urine samples are sent to the laboratory for microscopy / culture / sensitivity of the causative organisms. In some cases, the results of the cultures are negative after 24 to 48 hours of incubation. The culturing of negative urine samples is a huge burden on the laboratory in terms of cost, materials and man-hour.
