Abstract

In this study nurses' knowledge of the Integrated Nutrition Programme guidelines and implementation of the programme within the primary health care system in South Africa is assessed. A cross-sectional descriptionption study was conducted at a primary health care facility in Delft, in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. The variables used for data analysis were based on the nurses' knowledge and the implementation of the Integrated Nutrition Programme, which comprised evaluation and training; community and intersectoral collaboration; target groups, and risk criteria; vitamin A supplementation; protein-energy malnutrition scheme; and growth monitoring and nutrition counselling.
