Abstract

Since the 1970s, literature has revealed an increase in interest and research on patients' quality of life (QOL) as a health outcome. The emerging consensus is that QOL is a subjective and multi-dimensional concept, recognised as a significant health outcome sensitive to nursing interventions. To help establish nurses' role in clients' clinical outcomes in the multi-disciplinary health care team, nurses need to be in the forefront of QOL assessment - either to address specific research questions or to guide clinical practice.
