Abstract

The use of the Actuarial Society of South Africa's Demographic and Health model suggested that in 1996, 487 people died daily due to non-communicable diseases in South Africa. This figure rose to 536 deaths per day in 2001 and should reach 563 deaths per day in 2010 (Steyn, 2002).
