Abstract

This study investigated the sociocultural predictors of motor skill development of athletes from Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland. One hundred and fifteen {N = 115} student athletes were sampled on sociocultural and motor skills development questionnaire. Results indicated a positive relationship of the sociocultural variables on the athletes' motor skill development, as well as a significant composite effect on the sociocultural variables on the athletes' motor skill development. Also, significant gender differences were not {p>.05} apparent in mean rating with sociocultural variables as they influenced the athletes' motor skill development. The social situations, family and the schools were found to significantly {p<.05} predict the athletes' motor skill development.
