This AJPHERD special edition aptly focuses on pedagogy in general and teaching and learning advances more specifically. As with society, the area of teaching and learning has been subjected to broad-based changes both in terms of available provision but also with respect to the digitalisation of teaching and learning. Even within the changing academic there is agreement that the learning process should be transformational to the learner rather than a mere set of transactions in which the learner is a passive recipient and the teacher, a custodian of expert knowledge.
