Abstract

The objective of the study was to establish the relationship between job satisfaction, intention to stay, and organisational citizenship behaviour among employees in the provincial sport and recreation government department. To achieve the objective a quantitative research design using a survey was conducted. Using a field worker 150 structured questionnaires were distributed to employees in a provincial sport and recreation government department. The questionnaire intended to glean data on biographical information of employees and opinions on their level of job satisfaction, intention to stay and organisational citizenship behaviour. To analyse data descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression analysis were performed. The results for correlation analysis indicate positive correlations between job satisfaction and intention to stay; a positive relationship exists between job satisfaction and organisational citizenship behaviour; a positive correlation was also found between intention to stay and organisational citizenship behaviour. In respect of regression analysis, job satisfaction was found to be a predictor of intention to stay and organisational citizenship behaviour and intention to stay was confirmed to be a strong predictor of organisational citizenship behaviour. Sport and recreational government departments should ensure that their employees are satisfied with their jobs in all aspects as it impacts on their intention to stay and organisational citizenship behaviours.
