Abstract

Africa has the potential to feed the world. Agricultural production is up by 160% over the past 30 years. Eighteen sub-Saharan African countries have reached the Millennium Development Goals' first target of halving the proportion of people who are hungry. And increasingly wider efforts are being launched across the continent aimed at improving food security. There is still a long way to go as Africa remains a net importer of food with about 25% of the continent population still living in hunger.
