Abstract

The three classes of material which go to supplying the sustenance of the vegetable kingdom are water, a certain number of mineral salts, and carbonic acid gas together with a small quantity of nitrogen; we can thus conveniently divide plant food into the three states of matter, solids and liquids, and gases.
