Abstract

Artesian wells, otherwise, known as boreholes, have been, and will continue to be, one of the principal factors in the development of stock and agricultural farming in this Colony. Boreholes have proved beneficial to farmers in raising stock, and for the purpose of irrigating arable land. Borehole sinking has been undertaken by the Colonial Government (Public Works Department, Waterboring Branch), and a fair number of these wells have been sunk all over South Africa, having, as a rule, proved successful.
