Abstract

The houtkapper white ant or rijsmier is familiar to most Cape farmers, and the problem of how to prevent its depredations to growing forage is often brought up. The most commonly used remedy is the sprinkling of white arsenic around the holes it makes in the ground. In the northern colonies of recent years, other kinds of white ants have been very successfully, combated by means of an appliance called the ""Universal Ant Destroyer"". ""
