Life in the Western world has become highly modern; it is characterised by phenomena such as performativity, the operativity criterion and managerialism. Although educationists have reacted strongly to these phenomena in the past for the sake of human freedom and dignity, they continued to pervade educational theory and praxis, especially teaching, instruction and learning.
