Abstract

Against the background of society's inundation by images, the possibilities thus opened for preaching are explored in this article. A brief look is taken at the neurological basis for imagination, contending that images should be implemented in a balanced fashion in the process of communicating the gospel. The main thrust of the argument hinges on the belief that Scripture itself is a Book of images, and should as such be approached hermeneutically. The paper concludes by pointing out some key factors concerning the function of images, as well as offering homiletical suggestions on the use of images in preaching.
