Abstract


The subject (declared dead by the poststructuralists) is equally problematic in cyberspace. In this article I analyse subjectivity and the role of technology in identity formation in poems by Nijhoff, Van Wyk Louw and Evelyn Castelyn. On the basis of the analyses I propose a model for identity in poetry. Theories of poststructuralism and hypertext form the background of the article. In the foreground are the idea of the cyborg and Lyotard's view of the tegnologos and the three kinds of memory effect that it makes possible.
