Abstract

The South African National Survey of Arachnida (SANSA) was initiated in 1997, with the main aim of documenting the arachnid fauna of South Africa at a national level. The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) came on board for the project's second phase, called SANSA 2, from 2006 to 2010, in partnership with the Agricultural Research Council (ARC). During this four-year inventory and conservation assessment project biodiversity research on spiders, and the other arachnid fauna of South Africa was unified and strengthen and large datasets are now available.
