Abstract

Although isoflavonoids display imperative physiological properties, studies aimed at their synthesis have been hampered by tedious processes utilising stoichiometric and sometimes poisonous reagents with, where applicable, no control over the absolute configuration of the product. Addressing this situation in an environmentally benign way, the synthesis of a series of phenylacetic acid derivatives as well as corresponding phenylacetaldehydes through ozonolysis of the appropriate allylbenzene derivatives were investigated, and are reported on in this presentation.
