Depolymerisation of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) produces a mixture of fluorocarbons which may include tetrafluoroethylene, hexafluoropropylene, octafluorocyclobutane and perfluoroisobutene. A real-time analysis technique that uses inline FTIR for the quantification of these PTFE depolymerisation products was developed by implementing the Beer-Lambert equation to determine the absorbance contribution of each component over all recorded wavelengths.
