Abstract

In his book, The Cry of Winnie Mandela where Njabulo Ndebele uses fiction to explore the experiences of Black South African women, he writes: The desire to exert total control is related to the most primal male fear: uncertainty whether the child his wife gives birth to is really his. The logic of seduction, which drives a man to seek another's wife, allows for the possibility of an infinite number of unknown liaisons, which his own wife may enjoy. So, a plethora of controls may have to be put in place (2003:3-4).
