Focusing on the understanding of 'currere' as the individual's own capacity to reconceptualise his or her own autobiography, this paper explores the interface between this notion of curriculum reconceptualistion and the principle processes of identity, culture and politics. It is argued that the implications of these interactions should provide the bases for a national core literature curriculum for secondary schools in South Africa.
