Abstract

Can symbolic ritual cleansing effect any change in the South African context? The death and suffering which befell South Africa during the apartheid era has not abated, especially in KwaZulu-Natal. There is no doubt that the past South African regime with its policies, ploughed the land for the germination of seeds of violence and vengeance. The separation legislature incarcerated black people in their tribal groups and in the process also divided them, thereby rendering them ineffective in collective sense (Reader's Digest 374). Lebowa, Gazankulu, Bophuthatswana. Venda. Kwa-Zulu, and Kwandebele were brought about by this kind of system (Reader's Digest 378). In general, this lead to political instability and incoherence.
