Abstract

The relationship between the roots of a quadratic polynomial and the maximum or minimum point on its graph is easy to see. Suppose that the two quadratic roots are = α and = β. The quadratic function can then be written as f() = ( - α)( - β) = [ - (α + β) + α β]. To find the maximum or minimum of this function, its first derivative must be found, and set equal to 0.
