n Learning and Teaching Mathematics - Investigating the sum of the interior angles of convex polygons using paper and scissors

Abstract

This article explores an inductive process for finding the sum of the interior angles of convex polygons through the use of paper and scissors. The activities presented make use of drawing and cutting as a simple but experientially meaningful way to explore geometric concepts. The didactic and pedagogical functions of the activities presented in this paper aim to develop the learning of mathematics based on engagement and reasoning as well as to provide a creative and interesting mathematical experience.
