Three groups of Hereford X Afrikaner steer calves were handreared to average weaning weights of 203.5 lb, 300.0 Ib and 420.3 lb respectively. Subsequently all animals received identical rations and were slaughtered two years later when about 32 months old. On a ration simulating summer grazing the Low and Medium groups recuperated to such an extent that there were no significant differences between their final weights.
