Abstract

The value of urea, biuret and melamine as sources of nitrogen for sheep was determined in terms of nitrogen retention, non-protein nitrogen content of the blood and the digestibility of cellulose. Three nitrogen balance trials were conducted on each of the following treatments, namely a control group, one which received urea, a group which was drenched daily with an urea solution, one which received biuret and one which received melamine. Each of the non-protein nitrogen sources was included in a Themeda triandra grass hay ration fed in a ground and pelleted form.
