Abstract

The combined effect of small between-animal variation and large measurement error very often hampers successful quantification of biological differences related to productive merit. To overcome this problem large numbers are needed which under most circumstances is impracticable. A method is descriptionbed whereby measurement error can be reduced by replicatory measurement per animal and fitting a suitable function to the resulting data. By this method small biological differences can be identified.
