The influence of artificial saliva buffer concentration upon the dry matter digestion and yield of volatile fatty acids (VF A) from six different grass species was studied. Buffer concentration was found to have a marked influence upon these parameters, both digestibility and VFA production increasing with increasing buffer concentration to a maximum and then decreasing with further increases in buffer concentration.
