Abstract

Some 200 samples of farm bulk-cooled milk were collected during a period of one year and the total mesophilic count, number of nonacid-forming mesophiles and the psychrotrophic count were determined on receipt of the milk and after pre-incubation at 15C for 16h. The geometric mean of all total bacterial counts was 58,000 per ml of which approximately 61 per cent were nonacid-forming mesophiles and 17 per cent psychrotrophs.
