Abstract

German Merino ewes were assigned to five groups which were flushed for 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 weeks prior to a synchronized oestrus. The object was to determine the shortest time required to give a significant response to flushing. The two groups of ewes flushed for three and four weeks respectively showed significant increases in ovulation rate. The ewes flushed for three weeks, however, responded the best with an increase of 0,44 ovulations per ewe. No significant response was recorded with regard to lambing percentage, possibly due to the laparotomies performed six days after insemination.
