A descriptionption is given of how Opisthophthalmus carinatus histrio (Scorpionida, Scorpionidae) was found to feed on two small species of terrestrial molluscs in the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park, South Africa. Field and experimental observations suggest that these scorpions resort to this unorthodox diet only when there is a marked decrease in the availability of normal prey.
