Abstract

Mzimbiti lies between Beira and the Pungwe River on the railway line to Rhodesia. This paper is based mainly on the collection of birds and eggs now in the Natal Museum made by the late P. A. Sheppard in the area from 1908 to 1910. 59 species are recorded breeding in the area for the first time. Despite the difference in altitude and climate the majority of species breed at the same time as they do on the Rhodesian plateau. Six species appear to have somewhat different seasons.
