Abstract

The usual method of observing variable stars is by direct visual comparison of the variable with other stars. Whenever possible, two comparison stars should be used, one a little brighter and the other a little fainter than the variable, and the smaller the difference between the variable and the comparison stars the greater the accuracy of the result.
