Abstract

On 1838 October 13, a number of meteoric stones were seen to fall somewhere in the Cold Bokkeveld. Though, as will be shown, this fall was the largest ever recorded as witnessed in South Africa, and indeed in the Southern Hemisphere, there are few references to it in standard works on Astronomy. It is not included in the catalogue of ""Falls of Meteoric Stones Seen by Eye Witnesses"" on page 592, Vol. III., of Chamber's Handbook of Astronomy (4th Edition).
