Abstract

"Take up the White Man's burden/Send forth the best ye breed". This is the exordium, the opening, of Richard Kipling's well known poem, "The White Man's Burden", written in 1899. It was a response to the Spanishâ??American war and the heavy burden of Great Britain to save the world's others. Since the end of the "cold war" this burden has mainly been the USA's burden, manifested in an extreme manner after September 11th 2001. Today some few women too "have taken up this burden". As part of a neoliberal project for global gender equality and gender security under Pax Americana? One may wonder.
