Abstract

Latin Americans practice "cultural anthropophagy or cannibalism", i.e. they devour occidental cultural developments to create new cultural products: the anthropophagic speaker in César Vallejo's poetry creates a parody of elements of Western culture; César Moro appropriates French Symbolist poet Stéphane Mallarmé's (A Throw of the Dice will Never Abolish Chance) by using it to criticize the Spanish Conquest of the Americas; so does Oliverio Girondo in through an ironical usage of traditional tropes.
