This article will look at the social dimension of corporate purposes. In particular, the question whether the company has a wider spectrum of interests to satisfy beyond the shareholder interests will be discussed. It will be argued that for corporations to survive the tough competition brought about by globalisation and open markets they have to embrace corporate social responsibility as a strategy for sustainable profitability. Business cannot be guided only by the race to produce the best financial bottom line but rather by the triple-bottom line of the environment, society and profit.
