Abstract

During the past five decades the field of English Language Teaching (ELT) saw a dynamic shift from presentation of language in chunks and discrete items, to presentation within the contexts in which language is used in real life situations. Teachers of English generally agreed that the so-called ""General English"" is not immediately applicable for people who need to communicate in their respective professions. Special syllabi were then designed and given the tag ""English for Specific Purposes"" (ESP).
