Abstract

This article investigates exporting firms' perceptions of a number of obstacles to export activities. Obstacles to exporting is an issue of vital importance in export marketing as the way they are perceived by exporters often determines their future behaviour with regard to export activities. Data for the study was obtained from personal interviews with the executive most responsible for or most knowledgeable on a firm's export activities, from 48 firms. The findings showed that the highest ranked perceived obstacle (work and residence permits), was basically external to the firms.
