Abstract

This paper outlines the socio-political role of Swazi Divine Kingship in post-colonial Swaziland. Paying particular attention to the political dimension of the Swazi sacred monarchy, 1 contend and demonstrate that to many urban Swazi commoners the Swazi monarchy has failed to live up to the key socio-ethical ideals of Swazi sacred kingship. These ideals include impartiality, fairness, and equitable power sharing between commoners and the aristocrats.
