Abstract

This paper merges contributions from institutional theory and the resource-based view of the firm to build a framework to, explain the dynamics of entrepreneurial processes in African economies that are in transition towards building a market based economy. Using the specific case of Tanzania the paper identifies cultural perceptions, the lack of a well-developed individual property right legal systems, underdevelopedfactor markets and poor infrastructure as the main barriers to entrepreneurship development in Africa
