Abstract

This paper explores policy constraints and issues related to the development of the SMEs. SMEs are an essential-part of the private sector, which is a key engine of growth and poverty reduction. SMEs hold the promise of providing a base for the emergence of dynamic and efficient large-scale firms and consequently a more flexible and competitive economy. The government, in collaboration with the private sector and other stakeholders, has a key role in helping SMEs overcome these constraints.
