The focus of the paper is three-fold. First, it provides an analysis of Botswana traditional education prior to Christian missionary penetration. It illustrates that prior to the missionary era, pre-colonial education was characterised by oral traditions and imitation of the elderly and generally initiation of the young into activities, norms and values of the society, and religious values was a form of instruction throughout a child's life
