During July 1986, the writer undertook three weeks of geological fieldwork in the area around Tswaane borehole, in the Okwa Valley, beside the main road between Ghanzi and Kang, in Ghanzi District. In addition to the geological results of this work (Aldiss, 1987a: 1987b) various archaeological observations were made, most notably the discovery of some stone axes. Although the occurrence of such tools was noted by Crockett and Jennings (1965: 107), and by other geologists working in the area, it is not mentioned in Cooke's (1979) review of the Stone Age in Botswana, nor apparently, in Botswana Notes and Records. The purpose of this note is to place on record a brief descriptionption of the axes and their mode of occurrence.
