In 1994, three sites were excavated at Modipe Hill: a collection of four collapsed daga huts at the base; three stone walled enclosures on the mid-slopes, and finally a small furnace also located on the mid-slopes of the hill (see N Pearson, this issue). Pottery has been examined from the first two sites for this preliminary article. These excavations produced a significant amount of pottery. From the preliminary analysis the pottery from these excavations has been generally classified as being of the Moloko pottery tradition; spanning the 15th through the 18th centuries. This conclusion is supported by the eight radio-carbon dates recovered from the site. There are, however, a few design motifs that would appear to be intrusive, and these await further analyses.
