Abstract

Four of the pieces of fossil wood collected by Alec Campbell from the Boteti River, near the village of Motopi, were studied and identified. One piece was not wood but the other three are all of the Araucarioxylon type. Two were too poorly preserved to be identified to species level but one is the same as Dadoxylon sp. 1. of Lemoigne (1981) of Upper Permian age. The piece of wood collected by Ralph Bousfield from the hill-top at Tshaitshe, is Dadoxylon parenchymatosum and of Triassic age, and was obviously not in situ.
