Abstract

It is women who do much of the collection of water and other natural resources to sustain their families in southern Africa. Women also do a substantial amount oflabour at the community level involving water resources, including the management of water points such as wells and protected springs and the maintenance of water storage facilities. Women and men in southern Africa consider the provision of basic water services as a key element in well-balanced socio-economic development.
