Abstract

Before the railway arrived towards the end of the nineteenth century, Tati District was Africa at its wildest and most untamed-a hunters paradise. It was this initially, and in later years the discovery of gold, that caused the white man to ignore the threat of fever, dysentry and other dangers and venture into this unexplored region (Baxter 1970 1458).
