Abstract

It is now (2003) eighty-seven years since the assassination of Kgosi Seepapitso Gaseitsiwe, the BaNgwaketse monarch, by the direct hand of his own brother, Moepitso. In Setswana, the name Moepitso means ""one who goes to the meeting"" and ironically, it was at a kgotla meeting where he shot his brother dead. That fateful day, 18-June 1916, has been imprinted in the minds of BaNgwaketse as one of the saddest episodes in living memory.
