Abstract

Current evidence suggests that Africa, home to 11 % of the world's population, will experience the severe impacts of climate change (IPCC 200 I). Currently, African countries account for only 1 % of the world's goods and services (Rosen and Conly, 1998). Negative impacts of climate change on food production, distribution and access in the region will have a major impact on food security in Botswana, especially as it is highly dependent on imports to meet food requirement. Updated regional assessments of the impact of climate change, vulnerability and adaptation are required to put Botswana in perspective with respect to the ability to anticipate, prepare and respond to climate change related events in future.
