Abstract

Oreochromis mossambicus and Schilbe intermedius (fish species) were caught from Gaborone dam, Botswana. The stomach contents were studied to see if there were differences in food composition during the wet and dry seasons. In the wet season the dominant food ingested by S. intermedius and O. mossambicus were insects and algae respectively; whereas in the dry season the predominant components of the diet were fish and detritus respectively. This paper studies how seasonal patterns of rainfall can affect food resources and quality of fish diets.
