Abstract

There are only a few graves in the small cemetery that is attached to the side of the old Police station in Lobatse. One grave belongs to Captain Arthur John Tyler. He is the only soldier from the Anglo Boer War buried there. But what more do we know of him? Why did he come here and how did he die? And why was his father called 'Griffin Griffin'? This article is an attempt to start answering some of these questions.
